Hi,
Thanks for your interest in my Respect Rocks! concert. I think we are offering something unique to schools that educates and entertains in a fun and important way. The show is a rock and roll trio bringing the msg. in easy to sing along songs, hand/dance moves, and audience volunteers "jamming" with the band. It runs about 45 min. long and we provide all our own equipment. The band is an example of people from different backgrounds working together to achieve a goal/dream. I explain to the audience that I am living my dream of being a musician because in school my friends supported, encouraged me and didn't make fun of me or pick on me when I made mistakes or tried something new (like playing guitar!) The uniqueness of our presentation, besides the fun and energy of a music concert, is that we are not showing kids bullying behavior but offer prevention through character education and positive behavior concepts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Evans Students Participate in Anti-Bullying Assembly An assembly was held in the Kevin Grindlay Gymnasium on September 12, 2011 at 9am on Bully Prevention and Character Building. A group named Leonardo and The Making Waves played musical renditions of songs and messages for the students on anti-bullying and drug-free awareness. Students participated on stage, as they played musical instruments along with the Band. The message “Tell Somebody” was based upon the importance of students communicating with staff, if someone is bullying them. And that all of the student body and staff believe in a “No Bullies” philosophy. All in all the students and staff clapped along and had a good time with the Band as they recreated old classics like Wooly Bully, related to an Anti- Bullying theme. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Schools should consider adopting some of these as "their" songs in their effort to educate children about bullies and how to deal with them.
